O. Wake
Brooklyn mainstay O. Wake is masterminded by visual artist and illustrative musician Ofer Shouval. Shouval’s probing songwriting combines elements of art pop and indie rock to explore the anxieties and absurdities of today's world through witty vignettes and sweeping soundscapes. With intimacy wrought from vulnerability and a uniquely bashful confidence, O. Wake's emerging sounds inspire play and movement while evoking a rainbow of feelings.
Horror Movie Marathon
Horror Movie Marathon is a sick and sad attempt at recreating the golden age of pop/jazz vocalists from the 50s and 60s in our modern times. Under the cruel skies of derivative indie rock and regurgitated trends, Horror Movie Marathon stands out with an appreciation for the true and timeless. However, their sound is not as polished and prim like their would influences imply; the punk underpinnings of their boundless energy and chaotic style is what puts Horror Movie Marathon in a league of their own. Their live performances have been described by many as "Frank Sinatra on bath salts" and their recordings, specifically Rutledge's voice, have been ascribed the candor of "wilting beautifully like a dying flower in the first cold days of Fall." Their 2019 debut LP Good Scare received critical acclaim from the likes of GoldFlakePaint and more. Rutledge is currently finishing up a new 12-track album that is chock full of delightfully blow-hard blues-y piano riffs over tenderly brushed drums, with a lush string quartet accompanying what are sure to be Rutledge's most memorable vocal performances committed to tape yet. Release TBA 2023.
