The Chaser design pivots around Oran Canfield’s punchy, determinately non-clichéd drum patterns, Shayna Dulberger’s bruising bass guitar foundation, and Chris Welcome’s surgically invasive laser-pointer guitar dissonance. Dominika Em is a vocalist of sinister intrigue. Her impressionistic narratives are delivered with a measured intensity and set morbid scenes with enough holes in them that we are left to fill in the blanks. The New York City-based quartet offers modernistic cyborg-rock, teeming with oblique lyrical cruelty and angular, fastidious musicianship.
